INGREDIENTS:

1st

 

 

 

1 C lard (no substitute)

 

1 C butter

 

1 C sour cream

 

2 C brown sugar

 

1 C white sugar

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2nd

 

 

 

1 egg

 

1 t black pepper

 

1 t cinnamon

 

1 t allspice

 

1 t nutmeg

 

1 t ginger

 

1 t baking powder

 

1 t baking soda

 

½ t salt

 

½ - 1 t anise oil (purchase at drug store)

7 C flour

 

 

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

Blend 1st set of ingredients together well.  Then add the 2nd set of ingredients and blend together well.  Stir in the 7 cups of flour.  Makes a very stiff dough and best worked with your hand.  A bit more flour may be needed.  Chill dough in refrigerator overnight.  Make long rolls about the thickness of your finger on a floured board.  Place rolls on a cookie sheet and freeze.

 

When you are ready to bake, slice about ¼” thick and place on a cookie sheet.  Bake at 375 F. about 10 minutes or until lightly browned.  They brown quickly so watch closely.
